We do not treat nylon as a substitute. It is the right material when weight and practicality matter more than patina: long days on foot, travel, bad weather, anything where you would rather not think about the bag.

What we will and will not claim

Nylon handles light rain better than leather. We will not call a bag waterproof or water-resistant, give it a technical rating, or describe it as recycled unless the supplier can evidence it and we have tested it. Those words get used loosely in this category and they are easy to check, so we would rather not use them at all than use them carelessly.

Weight

This is the main reason to choose nylon. Every product page lists weight in pounds, so the difference against a comparable leather bag is there in numbers rather than adjectives.

Are nylon bags durable?

Nylon resists tearing and abrasion well and does not crease. It shows wear as scuffing rather than as patina. Hardware and stitching usually fail before the fabric does, which is where we spend the cost.

Can I use a nylon bag in the rain?

It handles light rain better than leather. We do not rate these as waterproof or water-resistant because we have not tested them to a standard, so treat rain as something the bag tolerates rather than something it is built for.

How do I clean a nylon bag?

Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air dry away from direct heat. Do not machine wash — it stresses the seams and the hardware.
